How To Boost Immune System

Maintain a healthy diet

A healthy diet is a key to a strong immune system. Make sure you eat a well-balanced diet high in fruits, vegetables, legumes, whole grains, lean protein and healthy fats for good, regular nourishment.

In addition to providing your immune system with the energy it needs, there are some micronutrients that play a more significant role. This includes antioxidants and Vitamins B6, C and E. It’s also so important to cut back on sugar as it can hinder your body’s ability to fight bacteria.

Sleep your way to better health

Yes, it’s easier said than done, but you need sleep to fight off potential infection. There are plenty of important actives happening in your body when you’re not awake, even if you don’t realise it!

Getting an adequate amount of sleep is essential to all the restorative functions that your body gets up to when you’re catching those zzz’s. Not only does it improve our skin's appearance, but getting enough sleep improves our mental health, our phsyical ability and overall quality of life.

Stay connected

We may have to social distance but there’s no need to emotionally distance - strong, healthy relationships can help to strengthen your immune system. Schedule time to care for your mental and emotional health by stay in contact with people you care about.

If you can’t check in in person, there’s always Facetime, Zoom, text messaging, a phone call, email... the list goes on. Friends and family may also be relying on you just as much - loneliness can have dramatic consequences for your health and its effects can be detrimental to your immune system.

Manage stress

Relieving stress and anxiety is key to immune health. During a period of stress, especially if it’s frequent and long-lasting, your body issues a stress response. In turn, this suppresses your immune system and can increase your change of infection or illness. Whether it's deep breathing, mediation, yoga, exercise or anything else, you should get familiar with the activities that help you reduce stress.

Find an exercise that works for you

Regular exercise is one of the pillars of healthy living. It improves cardiovascular health, lowers blood pressure and protects against a variety of diseases.

Just like a healthy diet, exercise contributes towards overall good health and therefore a healthy immune system.  One way exercise may improve immune function is by making it easier for infection-fighting molecules to travel more easily throughout your body due to improved circulation.
