Magnesium Sulfate (Epsom Salt) vs. Magnesium Chloride: Unraveling the Differences and Benefits"

by Cassie Sanghvi on Sep 26 2023
Magnesium is an essential mineral that plays a vital role in various bodily functions, from muscle and nerve function to maintaining heart health and bone density. Many people turn to magnesium supplements to ensure they meet their daily requirements, and two popular options are magnesium sulfate (Epsom salt) and magnesium chloride - aka The Base Collective Pure Magnesium Flakes. While both contain magnesium and offer numerous health benefits, they differ in composition, uses, and absorption rates. In this comprehensive guide, we'll explore the distinctions between magnesium sulfate and magnesium chloride to help you choose the right one for your needs. Magnesium Sulfate (Epsom Salt) - Man Made and Chemically Processed: Epsom salt can be found in nature, such as in underground deposits in various parts of the world, including Epsom, England, where it was originally identified. While Epsom salt is naturally occurring, it is also manufactured for commercial and therapeutic purposes, which is the majority of what is available on the market to purchase today. The manufacturing process involves the purification of naturally occurring magnesium sulfate or the creation of a synthetic form through chemical reactions. These manufactured forms are often used in various applications, including medicinal, cosmetic, and agricultural uses Magnesium Chloride - Naturally Occurring, we source ours from The Dead Sea:  Magnesium chloride is another compound that contains magnesium, along with chlorine. Unlike Epsom salts, Magnesium Chloride is 100% natural and there are many natural sources. Two main ones are the Tibetan Plateau (aka from China) and The Dead Sea (Israel). We source our Magnesium for our salts and all of our products from The Dead Sea as this is where majority of the studies exploring transdermal absorption and Magnesium benefits sourced their Magnesium from.  We take great care to ensure that our magnesium chloride is sustainably harvested through an eco-friendly evaporation process that naturally extracts the minerals without causing harm to the environment. This method allows the sun and wind to do the work, reducing the need for artificial energy and ensuring a minimal carbon footprint. Additionally, our sourcing practices prioritize the responsible management of the Dead Sea’s mineral resources, ensuring that its delicate ecosystem remains protected. Unlike invasive extraction techniques, our process does not disrupt the surrounding environment, preserving the natural balance of this unique and historic body of water. By choosing our Magnesium products, you're not only supporting your health and well-being but also opting for a product that is ethically and sustainably sourced, making it a conscious choice for both you and the planet. 1. Composition and Structure The primary difference between magnesium sulfate and magnesium chloride lies in their chemical composition and structure. Magnesium Sulfate (Epsom Salt): Epsom salt consists of magnesium, sulfur, and oxygen. The chemical formula for magnesium sulfate is MgSO4. It is known for its crystalline structure and is often used in baths for its soothing and muscle-relaxing properties. Magnesium Chloride: Magnesium chloride is a compound composed of magnesium and chlorine ions. Its chemical formula is MgCl2. Unlike Epsom salt, magnesium chloride is highly soluble in water, making it more suitable for various applications, including topical treatments. 2. Absorption Rate The absorption rate of magnesium sulfate and magnesium chloride differs significantly, affecting how effectively they can address magnesium deficiency and provide therapeutic benefits. Magnesium Sulfate (Epsom Salt): Epsom salt is primarily used in baths or foot soaks. When dissolved in warm water, it can be absorbed through the skin, a process known as transdermal absorption. While this method can be relaxing and soothing, the absorption rate through the skin is relatively slow, and it may not provide as significant a boost in magnesium levels as other forms. Magnesium Chloride: Magnesium chloride has a higher bioavailability and is more efficiently absorbed by the body when applied topically. This enhanced absorption rate makes it a preferred choice for those seeking to raise their magnesium levels quickly. 3. Therapeutic Benefits Both magnesium sulfate and magnesium chloride offer a range of benefits, but their specific applications and effectiveness may vary. Benefits of Magnesium Sulfate (Epsom Salt): Muscle Relaxation: Epsom salt baths are renowned for their ability to relax sore muscles and alleviate tension. The magnesium in Epsom salt may help reduce muscle cramps and stiffness. Stress Reduction: Soaking in an Epsom salt bath can provide a sense of relaxation and stress relief, making it a popular choice for relaxation and self-care. Improved Sleep: Some people find that Epsom salt baths before bedtime help improve sleep quality by promoting relaxation and reducing stress. Benefits of Magnesium Chloride:   All of the above benefits, Muscle Relaxation, Improved Sleep and Stress Reduction PLUS: Quick Absorption: Magnesium chloride is efficiently absorbed by the body, making it an effective choice for addressing magnesium deficiency and related symptoms. Nervous System Function: Magnesium chloride plays a crucial role in nerve function and may help reduce symptoms of conditions like restless leg syndrome and muscle spasms. Skin Health: Topical magnesium chloride applications can be beneficial for skin health, potentially helping with conditions like eczema and acne - this is why we have added to our all natural skin care line, you're welcome! 4. Method of Use The way you use magnesium sulfate (Epsom salt) and magnesium chloride varies due to their differing compositions and absorption rates. Using Magnesium Sulfate (Epsom Salt): Baths: Epsom salt is commonly used in baths or foot soaks. Dissolve a few cups of Epsom salt in warm bathwater and soak for 20-30 minutes to enjoy its relaxing and muscle-soothing benefits. Using Magnesium Chloride: Baths plus:  Topical Sprays or Lotions: Magnesium chloride is often used topically in the form of sprays, lotions, or oils. Applying it to the skin allows for quick absorption and may help with muscle cramps or skin issues.5. Safety and Precautions When using magnesium topical applications, it's essential to consider safety and potential precautions. Magnesium Sulfate (Epsom Salt): Epsom salt is generally safe for most people when used as directed. However, if you have certain medical conditions or allergies (such as allergies to sulphur) consult your healthcare professional before use. Magnesium Chloride: Magnesium chloride is safe for most individuals using it for topical application. But we do like to err on the side of caution and if you are on any other medication please consult your healthcare professional before use. Conclusion Magnesium sulfate (Epsom salt) and magnesium chloride are two distinct compounds that provide various wellness benefits. Epsom salt, with its soothing and muscle-relaxing properties, is often used in baths and topical applications. On the other hand, magnesium chloride, with its higher bioavailability makes it a more efficient choice for raising magnesium levels in the body.

5 Ways How To Use My Magnesium Oil Spray

by Cassie Sanghvi on Sep 05 2023
Magnesium is a vital mineral that plays a crucial role in various bodily functions, from muscle and nerve function to energy production and bone health. Many people are deficient in magnesium, which can lead to various health issues, including muscle cramps, pain, and sleep disturbances. One effective way to boost your magnesium levels is by using magnesium oil spray. In this comprehensive guide, we'll show you how to use magnesium oil spray for leg cramps, deodorant, pain relief, and improved sleep. Understanding Magnesium Oil Spray Before delving into the various applications of magnesium oil spray, let's first understand what it is and why it's beneficial. What Is Magnesium Oil Spray? Despite its name, magnesium oil spray is not an oil but a concentrated solution of magnesium chloride and water. When applied to the skin, it is absorbed through the pores, bypassing the digestive system, making it an effective way to increase magnesium levels. We source our Magnesium Chloride for The Base Collective Magnesium Oil from the Dead Sea, as all of the studies outlining the befits of topical Magnesium use this source.  Benefits of Magnesium Oil Spray Muscle Cramp Relief: Magnesium is essential for proper muscle function. Using magnesium oil spray can help alleviate muscle cramps and spasms, particularly in the legs. Pain Management: Magnesium oil spray has been reported to reduce pain associated with conditions like arthritis, fibromyalgia, and sore muscles. Natural Deodorant: Magnesium oil spray can be used as a natural alternative to traditional deodorants, neutralizing odor-causing bacteria. Improved Sleep: Magnesium is known to relax the muscles and calm the nervous system, making it an excellent aid for promoting better sleep. Using Magnesium Oil Spray for Leg Cramps Leg cramps can be extremely uncomfortable and disrupt your daily activities. Here's how to use magnesium oil spray to alleviate leg cramps: Step 1: Preparation Before applying magnesium oil spray, ensure your skin is clean and dry. You can take a warm shower or simply wash the affected area. Step 2: Application - Spray a small amount of magnesium oil directly onto the affected leg or muscle. Step 3: Massage - Gently massage the area to help the magnesium oil absorb into your skin. Massaging can also provide additional relief to cramped muscles. Step 4: Relax - Allow the magnesium oil to air dry. Avoid rinsing it off, as it needs time to penetrate your skin and work its magic. Magnesium Oil Spray as a Natural Deodorant Many traditional deodorants contain chemicals that some people may want to avoid. Magnesium oil spray can be an effective and natural alternative to keep you smelling fresh throughout the day. Step 1: Cleanse Start by cleaning your underarms thoroughly in the shower or with a damp cloth. Step 2: Application After drying your underarms, apply a few sprays of magnesium oil directly to each armpit. Allow the magnesium oil to air dry before getting dressed. Do not applied to freshly shaved skin or broken skin as it may irritate.  Step 3: Reapply as Needed Depending on your body's needs and the climate, you may need to reapply magnesium oil throughout the day to maintain its deodorizing effects. Using Magnesium Oil Spray for Pain Relief Whether you're dealing with chronic pain conditions or occasional muscle soreness, magnesium oil spray can be a valuable tool in your pain management toolkit. Step 1: Identify the Painful Area Determine the specific area where you're experiencing pain. It could be your back, shoulders, neck, or any other part of your body. Step 2: Application Spray a generous amount of magnesium oil directly onto the painful area. Gently massage the oil into your skin using circular motions for a few minutes. Step 3: Rest and Repeat Allow the magnesium oil to absorb into your skin and provide relief. You can repeat this process as needed, but be cautious not to overapply, as excessive magnesium absorption can cause skin irritation. Improving Sleep with Magnesium Oil Spray Quality sleep is essential for overall well-being. If you struggle with sleeplessness, magnesium oil spray might help you achieve a more restful night's sleep. We have developed our Beauty Sleep Spray, a dedicated Magnesium Spray with the added benefits of Lavender, Chamomile and Magnesium to help relax the mind as well as the muscles.  Step 1: Evening Routine Incorporate Beauty Sleep Spray into your evening routine, preferably 30 minutes before bedtime. Step 2: Application Spray onto your feet if you have never used before and after a few nights you can spray on your stomach 20 minutes before bed.  Step 3: Wind Down Engage in calming activities such as reading, meditation, or gentle stretching to help your body relax further. Step 4: Sleep Environment Ensure your sleep environment is conducive to rest: comfortable mattress, cool room, and minimal distractions. Step 5: Consistency Use magnesium oil spray every day to reap the benefits over time. Improved sleep may not be immediate, so be patient. Precautions and Tips While magnesium oil spray is generally safe, there are some precautions to keep in mind: Patch Test: As with any new product we recommend performing a patch test on a small area of your skin to check for any adverse reactions or allergies. Avoid use if irritation develops. Avoid Sensitive Areas: Avoid applying magnesium oil spray to sensitive areas, as it may cause irritation. Do not apply to your face or near your eyes.  If irritation occurs, rinse the area with water. Consult your health care professional: If you have any underlying medical conditions, consult a healthcare professional before using magnesium oil spray. Storage: Store your magnesium oil spray in a cool, dark place, away from direct sunlight. Magnesium oil spray is a versatile and natural remedy that can address various health concerns, including leg cramps, pain relief, deodorant, and sleep improvement. By following the steps outlined in this guide, you can harness the power of magnesium to enhance your well-being and improve your overall quality of life. Whether you're an athlete looking to prevent muscle cramps or someone seeking a chemical-free deodorant, magnesium oil spray is a simple and effective solution. Incorporate it into your daily routine, and you'll likely experience the many benefits it has to offer. Remember to consult a healthcare professional if you have any concerns or questions about using magnesium oil spray for your specific needs. The Magic of Magnesium for Kids: Promoting Restful Sleep with Magnesium Spray

by Cassie Sanghvi on Aug 08 2023
In the juggle struggle of modern life, ensuring that our little ones get adequate sleep is paramount for their overall health and well-being. While various factors contribute to a child's sleep patterns, one essential mineral that often goes unnoticed in the realm of children's sleep is magnesium. Magnesium is not only crucial for various bodily functions but also holds the potential to improve kids' sleep quality, especially when used in the form of magnesium spray. In this article, we'll explore the benefits of magnesium for kids' sleep and delve into the wonders of magnesium spray as a sleep aid. Understanding the Importance of Magnesium for Kids Magnesium is a vital mineral that plays a significant role in children's growth and development. It is involved in over 300 biochemical reactions within the body, ranging from maintaining healthy bones to supporting a robust immune system. While magnesium is commonly associated with muscle and nerve function, its role in regulating sleep patterns is often underestimated. Magnesium and Sleep: Unveiling the Connection Research has shown that magnesium has a profound impact on sleep quality, not only in adults but also in children. Magnesium helps regulate the body's production of melatonin, a hormone responsible for signaling the body when it's time to wind down and sleep. A deficiency in magnesium can lead to disrupted sleep patterns, restlessness, and even insomnia in kids. Moreover, magnesium aids in relaxing muscles and calming the nervous system, which can contribute to a sense of relaxation and tranquility before bedtime. Children with sufficient magnesium levels are more likely to fall asleep faster, experience fewer night awakenings, and enjoy deeper, more restorative sleep. Enter Magnesium Spray: A Natural Sleep Solution for Kids One innovative and convenient way to ensure that your child gets the right amount of magnesium for better sleep is through Magnesium Spray or Magnesium Balm applied to their skin. This topical application method provides a direct route for magnesium absorption through the skin.  Benefits of Magnesium Spray or Balm for Kids' Sleep Quick Absorption: Magnesium applied topically is quickly absorbed through the skin, allowing your child's body to benefit from its relaxing effects almost immediately. Ease of Use: Applying magnesium topically is a hassle-free process. Simply spray or rub onto your child's skin before bedtime and gently massage it in. This can become a soothing bedtime routine that signals to your child that it's time to wind down. Incorporating Magnesium Spray or Balm into Your Child's Bedtime Routine Patch Test: Before applying the spray to your child's entire body, perform a patch test on a small area of their skin to check for any adverse reactions. Magnesium Oil can tingle when applied and some children do not like this. If they don't like the tingle we recommend using our Little by The Base Collective Balm, which is full of natural lipids which will hydrate the skin whilst allowing the magnesium to be rubbed in without the tingle.  Create a Relaxing Environment: Combine the use of Magnesium Spray or balm with other calming bedtime practices, such as reading a story, dimming the lights, and maintaining a consistent sleep schedule. We love using our Little Hair and Body Wash to Strat the wind down routine, followed by the Little Sleep Spray  Be Patient: Like any natural remedy, results may take time to manifest. Consistency is key; continue using magnesium spray regularly to experience its full benefits. Conclusion In the quest to provide our children with the best sleep possible, considering the role of magnesium is an essential step. From regulating melatonin production to relaxing muscles, magnesium offers a natural solution to sleep challenges in kids. The introduction of magnesium products further simplifies the process, making it a convenient and effective way to enhance your child's sleep quality. Remember that every child is unique, so monitoring their response and consulting with your health care professional can help tailor the use of magnesium products to their specific needs. With the magic of magnesium, you can help your child embrace sweet dreams and wake up refreshed and ready to take on each new day.

The 5 Benefits of Magnesium For Endometriosis Sufferers

by Ashley Scott on Mar 20 2023
Endometriosis is a painful condition in which the tissue lining the uterus grows outside the uterus, causing inflammation and scarring in the surrounding tissue. It is estimated to affect up to 10% of women of reproductive age worldwide. While there is no cure for endometriosis, there are ways to manage the symptoms. One such way is through the use of magnesium supplements. In honour of Endometriosis Awareness Month, here are 5 benefits to using magnesium for people with endometriosis.  1. Reduces inflammation One of the primary benefits of magnesium is its ability to reduce inflammation. Inflammation is a key component of endometriosis, as it causes the tissue to become inflamed and irritated, leading to pain and discomfort. Magnesium has been shown to reduce inflammation by inhibiting the production of inflammatory cytokines, which are molecules that play a role in the immune response. 2. Alleviates pain Another significant benefit of magnesium for people with endometriosis is its ability to alleviate pain. Magnesium is a natural muscle relaxant and can help to reduce the spasms and cramps that often accompany endometriosis. It can also help to reduce the severity and frequency of menstrual cramps. 3. Regulates hormones Magnesium is also important for regulating hormones, which is particularly relevant for people with endometriosis. Hormonal imbalances can contribute to the development and progression of endometriosis, and magnesium can help to regulate hormone levels. Specifically, magnesium has been shown to reduce estrogen levels, which can be particularly beneficial for those with endometriosis. 4. Improves sleep quality Sleep disturbances are a common complaint among people with endometriosis, and magnesium can help to improve sleep quality. Magnesium is involved in the production of melatonin, a hormone that regulates sleep. By increasing magnesium intake, people with endometriosis can improve their sleep quality and reduce fatigue. 5. Supports bone health Finally, magnesium is essential for maintaining strong and healthy bones. Endometriosis can increase the risk of osteoporosis, a condition in which bones become brittle and weak. Magnesium helps to regulate calcium levels in the body, which is essential for bone health. By increasing magnesium intake, people with endometriosis can help to reduce their risk of developing osteoporosis. All in all, magnesium is a super vital supplement for people with endometriosis. Its anti-inflammatory properties can help to reduce pain and inflammation, while its ability to regulate hormones can help to manage the symptoms of endometriosis. Additionally, magnesium can improve sleep quality and support bone health. While magnesium supplements can be beneficial if you have endometriosis, it is important to speak with a healthcare professional before starting any new supplement regimen. Have You Tried The Base Collective Magnesium Oil Spray? We have had a ton of positive feedback from endometriosis sufferers who swear by our Magnesium Oil Spray to manage pain and reduce inflammation. The potent formula contains contains over 40mg/mL of elemental Magnesium, is non-greasy and readily absorbed by the skin, and topically delivers the essential mineral to your body.

3 Tips To Protect Your Skin This Summer

by Ashley Scott on Jan 11 2023
Summer is a time for beach days, outdoor adventures, and basking in the warm Australian sun. While these activities bring joy and relaxation, they also expose your skin to harmful UV rays that can lead to sunburn, premature aging, and an increased risk of skin cancer. That's why protecting your skin from the sun's harsh rays is essential for a healthy and youthful complexion. In this blog post, we'll explore three expert tips to safeguard your skin this summer, with a special focus on our Mineral SPF50 tinted sunscreen for your face. 1. Embrace the Power of Mineral Sunscreen When it comes to choosing a sunscreen for your face, not all products are created equal. Mineral sunscreen, also known as physical sunscreen, is a top choice for protecting your skin from the sun's harmful effects. Unlike chemical sunscreens, which absorb and transform UV radiation into heat, mineral sunscreens provide a physical barrier on your skin's surface, reflecting and scattering the UV rays away from your skin. Our Mineral SPF50 tinted sunscreen is a game-changer in the world of sun protection. Here's why it's the ideal choice for your face this summer: Broad-Spectrum Protection Our Mineral SPF50 tinted sunscreen offers broad-spectrum protection against both UVA and UVB rays. UVA rays penetrate deep into the skin and can lead to premature aging, while UVB rays are responsible for sunburn. By shielding your skin from both types of radiation, you can enjoy the sun without worrying about its detrimental effects. Gentle and Non-Irritating One common concern with sunscreens, especially for those with sensitive skin, is irritation. Chemical sunscreens can sometimes cause stinging or redness, making them less than ideal for facial use. Our Mineral SPF50 tinted sunscreen is formulated with gentle, mineral-based ingredients like zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, which are less likely to cause irritation or allergic reactions. It's suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin. Tinted for Flawless Coverage One of the standout features of our Mineral SPF50 tinted sunscreen is its subtle tint. This tint serves two essential purposes: Eliminates White Cast: The tint helps to avoid the white cast often experienced with other physical sunscreens. Sun Protection Enhancement: The tint adds an extra layer of sun protection by further blocking UV rays. Think of it as an added shield against the sun's harsh rays. With our Mineral SPF50 tinted sunscreen, you get both superior sun protection and a touch of beauty in one product. It's the perfect addition to your summer skincare routine. 2. Adopt a Sun-Smart Lifestyle While sunscreen is a crucial part of protecting your skin from the sun, it's not the only step you should take. A sun-smart lifestyle involves a combination of habits and practices that minimize your sun exposure and reduce the risk of sun damage. Here are some tips to keep in mind: Seek Shade During Peak Hours The sun's UV rays are strongest between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. During these hours, it's best to seek shade whenever possible. Whether you're at the beach, in the park, or enjoying an outdoor lunch, look for shaded areas to relax in. If shade is limited, consider bringing an umbrella or wearing a wide-brimmed hat to protect your face and neck. We also recommend using an APP like the Cancer Council UV Index APP to tell you when the UV is at it's highest and to cover up! Wear Protective Clothing Clothing can be an effective barrier against the sun. Opt for lightweight, long-sleeved shirts, and pants made from UPF (Ultraviolet Protection Factor) fabric. These garments are designed to block harmful UV rays while keeping you cool and comfortable. Don't forget to protect your eyes with sunglasses that provide 100% UV protection. Stay Hydrated Hydration is essential for maintaining healthy skin. When you're out in the sun, your body loses fluids through sweat, increasing the risk of dehydration. Drink plenty of water throughout the day to stay hydrated and help your skin stay supple and resilient. Avoid Tanning Beds Tanning beds emit concentrated UV radiation, which can be even more harmful than natural sunlight. Avoid using tanning beds altogether, as they can significantly increase your risk of skin cancer and accelerate the aging of your skin. Perform Regular Skin Checks Keep an eye on your skin for any changes, such as new moles, freckles, or unusual spots. Perform self-exams regularly and consider scheduling an annual skin check with a dermatologist. Early detection of skin cancer can make a significant difference in successful treatment. By incorporating these sun-smart practices into your daily life, you'll reduce the risk of sun damage and maintain healthy, beautiful skin throughout the summer and beyond. 3. Proper Application and Reapplication Even the best sunscreen won't provide adequate protection if it's not applied correctly. Here are some tips for ensuring you get the most out of your Mineral SPF50 tinted sunscreen: Apply Generously Don't skimp on sunscreen. Apply a generous amount to your face and neck at least 15 minutes before sun exposure, don't forget your ears!  Reapply Every Two Hours Sunscreen effectiveness diminishes over time, especially when you're sweating or swimming. To maintain protection, reapply your Mineral SPF50 tinted sunscreen every two hours, or more frequently if you're sweating heavily or in the water. Don't Forget Your Lips The skin on your lips is delicate and susceptible to sunburn. Use a lip balm with SPF to protect your lips from UV damage. Our Mineral SPF50 tinted sunscreen is designed for the face, but you can also apply it to your lips for added protection. Layering with Makeup If you wear makeup, you can still incorporate our Mineral SPF50 tinted sunscreen into your routine. Apply it as a base layer before your makeup, allowing it to dry for a few minutes. Then, you can apply your foundation or other makeup products as usual. This ensures that you have a solid layer of sun protection beneath your makeup. Be Mindful of Activities Certain activities, like swimming, sweating, or towel drying, can remove sunscreen from your skin. After engaging in these activities, reapply your sunscreen promptly to maintain protection. Protecting your skin from the sun is a year-round responsibility, but it becomes even more critical during the summer months when UV radiation is at its peak. By embracing the power of mineral sunscreen, adopting a sun-smart lifestyle, and practicing proper sunscreen application, you can enjoy the beauty of summer while safeguarding your skin from harmful UV rays. Our Mineral SPF50 tinted sunscreen for the face is the perfect companion for your summer adventures. With its broad-spectrum protection, gentle formula, and subtle tint, it offers everything your skin needs to stay healthy and radiant. Remember, your skin is your body's largest organ, and taking care of it is an investment in your long-term health and beauty. So, make Mineral SPF50 tinted sunscreen an essential part of your summer skincare routine, and bask in the sun's warmth with confidence

The Australian Beauty Brands Currently On My Radar by The Skincare Obsessive

by Ashley Scott on Jul 04 2022
This blog was written by the wonderful Simon from The Skincare Obsessive. You can see the original blog here.ROEMY: ROEMY is a Melbourne-based fragrance brand that I actually discovered through an Instagram ad, and boy am I glad that I did. I started out with their Discovery Set which contains 5 x 3ml fragrance vials of their current five fragrances, I can honestly say that I liked all of them and as someone who has tried a lot of fragrances over the years, these are very different and unique. The brand also has very strong values when it comes to sustainability and using high-quality natural ingredients where possible which is something that has been very important to me as of late, I personally own a few of their scents [No.6, Resort and Solstice] and am looking at incorporating more of their scents into my collection.  I am really excited to see what the brand does next as I am sure it will be something that I love. Product Recommendations: Edition 1 Discovery Set, No.6, Resort, Solstice.  *Tomorrow Skincare: I was lucky enough to meet the founder of this brand and being a new brand itself I was really impressed, everything from the packaging to the formulas to the fragrance of the products really interested me. I know that fragrance in skincare products can be a bit of a controversial topic but I personally like it and it doesn't ever affect my skin in any way, the scents of these products are just beautiful. The products are really well thought out and make it easy to start incorporating them into your routine, right now there are four products in the range so it's a nicely edited selection consisting of a cleanser, toner, serum and moisturiser. I have been using the products for the last few months now and enjoy having them in my routine, excited to see what they come out with next.  Product Recommendations: Liquid Toner, Foam Cleanser, Structure Serum, Gel Moisturiser. *NXT CHPTR: Being the beauty devotee that I am, I am always looking for what's new when it comes to beauty products, one of the brands I have recently been lucky enough to try is NXT CHPTR. The range currently consists of three products, a cleanser, serum and moisturiser which can be either purchased as a set of three or purchased individually. I like the idea of the range being edited meaning it's easy to either incorporate into your existing routine or if you are just starting out it's a great place to start. The products are all very effective and my skin has responded well to them, always such a joy seeing local to me brands doing so well. Product Recommendation: CHPTR 01 3-Step Routine. *Premo Skincare: This brand is one of the newer brands to reach my beauty cupboard, they are starting the range off with a face oil that contains a blend of Jojoba Oil, Macadamia Oil, Rosehip Oil, Primrose Oil as well as Vitamin E. As the weather is starting to cool down in Australia I will be looking at including more face oils into my routine, I have an oily-combination skin type but when it's colder out my skin definitely craves a hit of moisture. The thing I have learnt about incorporating a face oil into my routine is to not apply too much, normally 2-3 drops do the trick for my skin. Product Recommendation: Natural Face Oil For Men. *The Base Collective: The Base Collective is an Australian brand that centres around Magnesium that goes into their products which range from body balms, body washes, face serums and so on.  I like using their Magnesium Beauty Sleep Spray With Lavender before bed and it helps to immediately calm me down and set me up for a good nights sleep. One of the products I have been using lately is their Glow Restore Triple Serum which is a bit of an all rounder as it contains ingredients that help to hydrate the skin, even out skin tone and calm and soothe the skin. As it's very cold at this moment in Melbourne I am incorporating as many nourishing products into my routine as possible and this has fit into my routine perfectly. Product Recommendations: Glow Restore Triple Serum, Magnesium Beauty Sleep Spray With Lavender. *Synergie Skin: Synergie Skin is a brand that has always been on my personal radar and over the years I have tried bits and pieces from the range, as of late I have been lucky enough to try and few serums from the range and have been very impressed with everything that I have tried. I was recommended three serums based on my current skincare concerns which are blemishes and post-inflammatory pigmentation and all three serums have easily incorporated into my daily routine. The thing I love about these serums is how active they are and how quickly I saw results in my skin, I love how lightweight they are and how quickly they absorb into my skin as I am someone who likes to layer my serums and these make it easy to do so. The website offers a quiz which you can do to find out what products are right for you and they also offer a range of kits which make it a great way to try different things from the brand. Product Recommendations: Vitamin B 13% Essential Niacinamide Serum, Blem-X Blemish Control Serum, Enlighten Skin Brightening Serum.

Unlocking the Magic of Beauty Sleep Balm: 3 Ways to Enhance Your Nighttime Routine

by Cassie Sanghvi on May 29 2022
In today's fast-paced world, getting a good night's sleep can be a challenge. Stress, the constant juggle struggle of the modern world, and increased screen time often leave us tossing and turning in bed, longing for that elusive beauty sleep. That's where our Magnesium Cream for Sleep - Beauty Sleep Balm comes to the rescue. It's a best seller for a reason, infused with magnesium and lavender, not only does it promise to enhance your sleep quality, but it also offers a myriad of other benefits. In this blog post, we will explore three ways to incorporate this wonder balm into your nighttime routine. 1. Calm Your Mind and Relax Your Body After a long, exhausting day, the last thing you need is a restless night's sleep. A racing mind can keep you tossing and turning, leaving you feeling groggy and unrefreshed in the morning. This is where the Beauty Sleep Balm shines. Its key ingredients, magnesium chloride and lavender, are renowned for their calming properties. Magnesium is a vital mineral that plays a crucial role in regulating neurotransmitters in the brain. When your body is deficient in magnesium, you may experience anxiety and stress. By applying the Beauty Sleep Balm to your pulse points before bedtime, you're providing your body with a soothing dose of magnesium, which can help reduce anxiety and promote relaxation. Lavender, on the other hand, is a fragrant herb that has been used for centuries to promote sleep and relaxation. The gentle, floral scent of lavender has a calming effect on the mind, making it easier to drift into a peaceful slumber. When combined with magnesium in the Beauty Sleep Balm, it creates a potent synergy that helps calm your mind and relax your body, setting the stage for a restful night's sleep. How to Use: Before bedtime, apply a small amount of the Beauty Sleep Balm to your pulse points, such as your wrists and temples. Take a few moments to inhale the soothing lavender scent deeply. Allow the balm to absorb into your skin, and let the calming effects take over. 2. Nourish Your Skin While You Sleep While the primary goal of a beauty sleep balm is to enhance your sleep quality, it can also double as a nourishing skincare product. Your skin goes through a lot during the day, facing environmental pollutants, UV rays, and makeup. A nighttime skincare routine is essential to repair and rejuvenate your skin. The Beauty Sleep Balm can be a valuable addition to your skincare regimen. This balm contains natural oils and butters that provide hydration and nourishment to your skin while you sleep. Ingredients like shea butter, cocoa butter, and vitamin E are rich in antioxidants and fatty acids, which help replenish your skin's moisture barrier. When applied before bedtime, the balm forms a protective layer on your skin, preventing moisture loss and promoting a healthy complexion. Furthermore, the balm's lavender scent can contribute to a relaxing sleep environment, which can indirectly benefit your skin. Quality sleep is essential for skin health, as it allows your body to undergo necessary repairs and collagen production, leading to a glowing complexion. How to Use: After your regular nighttime skincare routine, take a small amount of the Beauty Sleep Balm. Gently massage it into your face and neck, focusing on dry or problem areas. Allow the balm to work its magic overnight, and wake up to soft, hydrated skin. 3. Soothe Aches and Pains Sometimes, sleep disruptions aren't solely caused by a racing mind; they can also be due to physical discomfort. Whether it's muscle soreness, joint pain, or tension headaches, these aches and pains can make it challenging to fall asleep and stay asleep. The Beauty Sleep Balm, with its magnesium-infused formula, can be a game-changer in providing relief from these discomforts. Magnesium is known for its muscle-relaxing properties. It helps reduce muscle tension and can alleviate symptoms of muscle cramps or soreness. By applying the balm to specific areas of discomfort, such as your neck, shoulders, or temples, you can target the source of your physical discomfort and enjoy a more comfortable night's sleep. Additionally, the calming scent of lavender in the balm can help ease tension headaches and promote relaxation. It's a holistic approach to managing both physical and mental aspects of sleep disturbances. How to Use: Identify the areas of your body that are experiencing discomfort. Take a small amount of the Beauty Sleep Balm and gently massage it into those areas. Enjoy the soothing relief as the balm works its magic. Conclusion Incorporating our Beauty Sleep Balm into your nighttime routine can transform your sleep experience and benefit your overall well-being. The Beauty Sleep Balm with magnesium and lavender offers a multi-faceted approach to enhancing your sleep quality, promoting skin health, and relieving physical discomfort. By calming your mind and relaxing your body, nourishing your skin, and soothing aches and pains, this versatile balm can become an essential part of your self-care routine. Say goodbye to restless nights and hello to the restorative power of beauty sleep, all with the help of one simple product. Give the Beauty Sleep Balm a try, and let it guide you to a night of peaceful slumber and rejuvenation. Sweet dreams await, you deserve it!

Magnesium Oil or Tablets?

by The Base Collective on Apr 19 2022
You might think we're biased. After all we've very clearly about getting you Magnesium intake via your skin. (If you want to know why you need Magnesium you can read all about that here.) But there are several good reason why we recommend transdermal application of Magnesium rather than oral Magnesium supplements and we've jotted them down right here for you.   Why you should spray your magnesium instead of swallow  Magnesium. It’s relaxing and calming, energising and rejuvenating… so how can you benefit most? While certain foods and supplements can increase your magnesium levels, we’re big advocates for transdermal application and its ability to absorb magnesium through the skin. While supplements may seem like a quick fix for your deficiency, applying this incredible mineral topically actually allows for you to hit the exact spot you need it. Plus, you can treat your skin while you’re at it. Who doesn’t want that?   Why can’t I just eat magnesium enriched foods? To increase magnesium levels, you can turn to foods such as spinach, almonds and avocados, which are all high in magnesium. However, when passed through the digestive system, much of this crucial mineral is lost. Milk, coffee and excessive alcohol consumption for example, can further inhibit how much magnesium is absorbed through the small and large intestines.(2) Other factors such as stress, digestive issues and kidney malfunction can too play a part. When sourcing magnesium solely from food, you should also be aware that cooking, boiling, processing and refining food can deplete its magnesium content by up to 85%!(1)   Magnesium supplements can be destroyed in the gut! Did you know that majority of magnesium ingested is destroyed in the gut? According to one study, the amount of dietary magnesium absorbed can fluctuate between 24-76%, with the rest being eliminated through waste.(3) As oral magnesium supplements aren’t the most effective, we recommend increasing your levels with topical treatments!    How can transdermal magnesium help? One of the reasons we love topical magnesium, is that it can be used to target sore spots over the entire body. If you often have headaches or migraines for example, applying magnesium to the base of your neck can help alleviate tension. Struggling with period pain? Apply to the lower abdomen! Topical magnesium is also fantastic for relieving specific conditions such as restless leg syndrome or sleeplessness. Applying a little magnesium to the soles of your feet before bed works wonders. For topical application, we recommend our Magnesium Oil which may assist with anything from muscle fatigue to feeling stressed. To build up your tolerance, start with only one or two sprays both morning and night. Apply to your stomach, back or legs, slowly working up to 10 sprays.   Can I apply topical magnesium while taking other medication? Another great benefit of applying magnesium transdermally, is that it won’t interfere with any other medications you may be taking. Once applied to the skin, your body will only absorb what it needs! It’s a safe and simple way to increase your magnesium levels, while treating your skin.   Your skin will thank you! Speaking of treating your skin, incorporating magnesium based products into your everyday routine not only benefits your body… you'll also be left feeling smooth and hydrated! Getting into the habit of moisturising with our Magnesium + White Tea Body Balm for example, means you can increase your magnesium levels each day without thinking. We all love a good multitasking product!   Still got questions? Shoot through an email to hello@thebasecollective.com and we'll get back to you with any questions you have. Afterall, Magnesium is pretty much our favourite topic to talk about these days!         (1)www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1855626/ (2)www.saveourbones.com/what-you-should-and-shouldnt-do-to-get-maximum-magnesium-bioavailability/   Stock image via pexel.com

How to Make Your Own Anti-Itch Eczema Soak in under 2 Minutes.

by The Base Collective on Apr 19 2022
Eczema. A quick google will give you the fairly bland definition of inflammation of the skin, characterised by itchy, red, cracked and rough patches of skin. But if you've ever had it yourself, or even worse, watched your child suffer a flare up, then you know that that description really doesn't do it justice. Now the cause of Eczema can vary from genetics, to environment, to weakness in the immune system, to defects in the skins protective barriers, to stress. And the prevention or cure of Eczema is a little bit of a holy grail simply because every body reacts differently to the standard treatments.  While we'd love to say we know the answer, we're still waiting for it like everyone else.  But, in the meantime, we have concocted a soak* you can easily create at home that will both relieve the itch and the dryness and hopefully give your or your little one some serious relief.     FOOT OR HAND SOAK Ingredients: 2-3 Litres of Warm Water (this will depend on the tub or bucket you have to use) 3-4 Tablespoons of blitzed Oats (we used organic but go with whatever you have easy access too) 1 Tablespoon Coconut Oil 2-3 Tablespoons of Magnesium Chloride Flakes   Method: 1. Blitz a cup or two of oats in the blender^ until ground to a fine dust (save whatever you don't use this time for the next soak) 2. Fill tub/bucket with warm water 3. Dissolve Ground Oats and Magnesium Chloride Flakes into the warm water 4. Add Coconut Oil and stir until melted 5. Soak feet or hands for up to 20 minutes 6. Gently dab dry with a towel     BATH SOAK Ingredients: A nice full warm bath. (Possibly wine and a magazine/ipad) 1 Cup of blitzed Oats (we used organic but go with whatever you have easy access too) 3 Tablespoon Coconut Oil 1/2 to 1 Sachet of Magnesium Chloride Flakes   Method: 1. Blitz a cup or two of oats in the blender^ until ground to a fine dust (save whatever you don't use this time for the next soak) 2. Fill bath with warm water 3. Dissolve Ground Oats and Magnesium Chloride Flakes into the bath water 4. Add Coconut Oil and stir until melted 5. Soak away (we'd say 15-20 minutes) 6. Gently dab dry with a towel   Why these three ingredients?  Oatmeal It turns out, Oatmeal isn't just for breakfast. As detailed in a study published by the Journal of Drugs and Dermatology  Oatmeal has a chemical structure that makes it ideal for treating conditions like Ezcema.(1) It is able to protect the skin and hold in moisture because of its starches and beta-gluocans. It also has significant anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties and can cleanse and soften the skin.   Magnesium Chloride Magnesium Chloride is important to include for two reasons. Firstly a Magnesium deficiency will increase our sensitivity to stress and stress is one of the causes linked to Eczema flare ups. Secondly, "Magnesium deficiency will also result in an increase in histamine production.  This in turn causes the blood vessels to swell and fluid to leak into the skin and underlying tissues.  The end result is red blotches on the skin and itchiness, again a classic symptom of eczema"(2). So while you're soaking in your Oatmeal why wouldn't you add in your Magnesium as well?   Coconut Oil Coconut Oil has become natures wonder drug in recent years but it does seem to be earning its title. Not only does it have antibacterial, anti fungal, antioxidant and antimicrobial properties (3) that can soothe your skin it will also help to reduce inflammation and hydrate - which when it comes to Eczema is the name of the game. Amazingly it contains Lauric Acid (also found in breast milk) which can help contain any staphylococcus bacteria on the skin which may be contributing to flare ups. Just don't add too much to a Bath Soak or you may find yourself sliding all over the tub.   Happy Soaking!   ^If you don't have a blender or foot processor simply place the oats into a stocking and pop that in the bath instead! *This is to be used in conjunction with whatever treatment your healthcare practitioner has prescribed. This should not replace treatment that has been prescribed to you without consultation with your healthcare providers.    (1) https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17373175# (2) http://www.eczema.com.au/articles/105-magnesium-eczema/ (3) https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19134433 (Stock image via Shutterstock)
